I'll keep that in mind if I ever see tailing hardheads!

Nice!
What kayak is that again?
Just curious what fast paddle kayaks are still available.

Lighthouse Lakes 5/14/23
The in-laws rented a house in PA for a long weekend so I took a kayak to fish when possible. Same as before I was wanting to see more of the Lighthouse Lakes if the water was high enough. Unfortunately the weather didn't cooperate very well and I was hesitant to go out with thunderstorms forecasted,...

I was in Port A over the weekend too. I only fished Sunday afternoon due to the weather and took an 8 mile trip around Lighthouse Lakes. I'll post a report later tonight or tomorrow.

Re: Lighthouse Lakes 4/28/23
There are a lot of "residential reds" in LHL and even if you do not see action the chances of one sitting right below the surface is high. With high tides LHL can be really difficult. However, learning the pot holes, fishing structure like mangrove lines and guts close by will usually get...

Re: Lighthouse Lakes 4/28/23
Thanks for your help in knowing when the water is high enough to get in there Neumie. If the water is still that high when I'm back in a few weeks, I'll have more time to explore and see if I can find them. I mapped out my route in and only did about 2 miles so there was still a lot to explore and s...

Lighthouse Lakes 4/28/23
I made a reservation at Mustang Island State Park months ago as my kids, while still very young, are getting more independent. Ultimately I need to relax more and I'd also like to fish the coast more. I can't justify a $200/night rental house so I'm looking into camping at the State Parks. Not too b...

Re: Is Tying a Necessary Evil, Something You Absolutely Enjoy, or Somewhere in Between?
I'm currently using fly tying as an outlet to just be more involved due to lack of time. My goal is to try a new pattern every month and I started out with the merkin crab in January, had to sit out February after catching hand, foot, and mouth from my kids, and then I moved onto the Seaducer for Ma...

Re: 6wt for Reds?
It's not so much what sized fly rod you're using, it's the leader and tippet that determine whether it's a good choice for catching redfish. If you take your time moving the kayak to the fish you can usually get close enough for an easy cast. A quality heavy leader and 20lb tippet will work on an 8...

Re: Fly Box for the Salt
Lol, true on keeping things segregated.
When using conventional gear, whatever boxes I open up, everything with metal gets soaked in water with a drop of dish soap after I'm done. I have done similar with the few flies I've taken with me on guided trips.

Re: Fly Box for the Salt
I use Plano boxes. Large and small. Most of my Rockport flies have weed guards that don’t do well in conventional fly boxes. If you fish over shallow grass, weed guards can help you out. Ok, I've put some flies into a Plano style box in the past when I went with a guide. I tie a lot of mine with a ...

Fly Box for the Salt
I'm looking to do more fly fishing on the Texas Coast in the AP/PA area. I have some fly patterns that I tie or buy and I'm wondering what everyone is using to keep them in on the kayak? I've looked at multiple boxes and I don't mind carrying 2 or 3 if need be. Just trying to figure out what others ...

Re: A very busy morning in the mud
Do you mind if I ask where you launched from? I am mostly focused on learning the South Side of Redfish Bay down to Wilson's Cut but always looking for other areas just to be able to change things up and explore. Of course I still need to explore the LHL and I plan on spending more time down there d...

Thanks for the report. Christmas Bay in the Fall is an area that I'm going to start learning so I have more opportunities to fish saltwater and relax after the busy season at work.

Re: Looking for info about Matagorda/Colorado river
I would check water levels for St. Mary's. If you can walk out into the pool about 50 feet from shore at the launch area, it probably needs to be at least knee deep or a little higher.

East Matagorda Bay Paddlesports Park/Rudacell's Cut and Allen's Landing Kayak Launching
Ok, I'm back on the conundrum I was on 2 years ago about places in either East Matagorda Bay or the Galveston area where I could drive down from Bryan, launch a kayak and fish for a few hours, and then drive back home. There is the Paddlesports Park and Allen's Landing Trailhead just to north in Eas...
