Re: Corpus Christi bass?
It is about 4 hours to Falcon Lake and great bass fishing in my past. I camped at the state park and fished my self to worn out from my yak. I will likely be back there in January for a few weeks again.

Re: Gulf Shores info
From what some friends have told me, launch places are few and far between. Supposedly there is a bay side launch very near Ft. Morgan but that is really close to the main pass into the bay. Currents could be a trouble. Another friend likes to surf fish on the gulf side of the peninsula. He catches ...

Re: What is the highest wind speed that is safe to fish from a kayak? Any safe places?
I have proven to myself a few times that 20 mph is time for me to be off the water with a kayak. Higher than that I am not certain I can do a deep water recovery if I fall off the yak. At nearly 73 with bad shoulders I feel like I need to be extra careful about the wind taking over control of the yak.

Re: New old Kestrel
When I was in Washington State working and living next to the Columbia River, I used the earlier version of that hull in a Sink and it was a wonderful delight to paddle. It slid along in the water like there was no resistance. And talk about twisting and turning when you wanted to play. It was a gre...

Hard lures advice please.
I decided to give hard lures a try this spring. Most of the lures have been reasonably easy to choose one or another brand. However the Mirrodine vs the X-Rap Twitch Mullet have been impossible for me. Does any one have experience with those two lure styles to offer some experience and advice on whi...

Re: How Old Are You?
The calendar says I am 72.5. My body says I am 97. Been paddling one thing or another since I was about 12. Had to give up biking, mountain trail hiking and jetty scrambling last year. The body showed me who is boss. Hoping to get back on a SOT this summer. SINKs and my knees are totally incompatibl...

Re: Lake Amistad Feb 2019
I hit up three of the launch ramps closest to Del Rio today to check on catches. There was only three boat trailers at each place. From high spots I was unable to spot any yakkers at all or even a power boat running around. The water was the Amistad beautiful blue green.

Re: Lake Amistad Feb 2019
The lake has gotten several feet of water recently. New areas of vegetation are covered and should make for some wild spring fishing. As an aside the flower buds are huge this year so it could be very scenic in a week or so.

Lake Amistad Feb 2019
I got here yesterday and am set up in one of the NRA campgrounds with plans to be here a couple of weeks. So far all I have seen is the lake is up several feet from last fall. Sunday I am hoping to get out wet a line and see what I can find out about the fishing. Diablo East ramp Friday was nearly d...

Shorty in dark green was a favorite lure of mine in the 60's. Good memories from that lure.

Re: poll: what do you think about this year's flounder run?
Here in Rockport the flounder catch for larger fish has been adequate. However the numbers for the usual 1/4 inch short fish has been way down from what I have seen.

Re: Line Frazzle
I do use a mono leader when around rocks, shell or whatever that could cause abrasion trouble. Most of my fishing here in Rockport is in water deep enough I do not contact rocks etc very often. That is what makes me guess it is fish gill plates or ???? causing the frazzle. It has not caused me enoug...

An observation on braid fishing line. Both lines are big name 20#/6 braid lines in yellow. Brand 1 is 4 ply braid and Brand 2 is 8 ply braid. I used the brand 1 for about four years. Brand 2 has been in use about two years. Here is something I have noticed. Brand 2 is is less stiff and needs more ca...

I was down at LHL area around 3pm today. The water was pretty low but bait fish were moving about. I did not fish, just took some pictures for my blog. Clarity was excellent in that area and back in the Rockport harbor area. Good luck.

Gold Spoon Results
Since early September this year I have used only gold spoons for my lure fishing around Rockport Tx. Also I have only used the Johnson Sprite or Silver Minnow. Here is my question. Out of ten fish the Sprite will catch three of them and the Silver Minnow will catch seven of them. Fishing has been al...
