Re: Jet ski fishing set up

I’m seeing this post late! To answer the question of the post, yes. There are many people that are using the PWC platform to access waters both inshore and offshore. As mentioned there are a few limitations as with any watercraft, but there are also several advantages. If anyone has any questions po...

Jacks and Kings (Uppercoast)

If any of you guys want to target Jacks and Kings fairly close to shore they are out in full force now. We were catching Jacks just past the surf out to 40ft of water, the Kings were on the further end of that range which is about 3 miles out. Due to the unstable atmosphere this weekend our group de...

Tod, you might want to consider incorporating "Separate Fish Bags" into the rules for those fishing tandem.

Stevo, remember each angler on the TI must be registered individually and there is no sharing of fish. ;)

Yes, and it's a 6-7 mike paddle depending on where you camp. Currents can be treacherous at Pass Cavallo so be mindful of that.

Re: Wow the prices of yaks these days are insane

There's nothing wrong with having personal zen beliefs about kayaking, I used to be exactly the same way many moons ago and truth be told I despised jet skis. There's also nothing wrong with venturing outside the box in regards to fishing platforms (Solo Skiffs, Jet Skis, Sailing Kayaks, Float Tube,...

Re: Wow the prices of yaks these days are insane

You know what I think about Hobie AI / TIs! The are very cool fishing platforms but require too much effort to prep and stow after fishing, and of course there is the cost issue. $6,500 for a TI and you still need to accessorize, add electronics, tramps, motor?, and purchase a trailer. I am into the...

Re: Hobie AI/TI - Saturday, October 1st (Surfside)

I'm glad you posted Crazy Yak. What web-site do you go to check on Gulf currents? This is the worst I have dealt with and would like to keep an eye on it just like I would the weather and surf conditions. I plan on going back but I will strongly consider the currents next time. The TI did an awesom...

Re: Hobie AI/TI - Saturday, October 1st (Surfside)

This area you were fishing is no place for kayaks, it's too far offshore to fish safely w/o a safety boat. The currents have also been ripping at 2.5-4 mph due to east winds and recent storms in the eastern gulf pushing water to the west. With good conditions a Hobie AI/TI makes it possible to reach...

Yeah I have a problem, my tackle bag ways about 10lbs. On the bright side I'm only bringing a 9" x 13" tray of lures.

Not sure about the intention of this post but I seriously doubt Glen had negative intentions, I believe he was simply stating an observation. That being said I’ll chime in anyways to clear up any questions. For well over a decade I've been involved offshore kayak fishing and continue to be both insh...

Re: Back to the basics.

Thanks for the info about cost + rigging, my buddies and I from SA see ourselves trading in the kayaks in a few years and moving up to the pwcs. Seems to really open up the possible options for 20-30 miles offshore while going down PINS and the port mansfield area. Sure would be be interested to he...

Re: Back to the basics.

 By the way, how much is a PWC customized for fishing like yours? I just looking for a ballpark figure. You can find a used ski suitable for offshore fishing from roughly $6,000-$8,500, expect to pay double for a new model. Most will have <40 hours, most PWC purchases are based upon impulse a...

Back to the basics.

On the last day of the Port Mansfield trip with a lull in fishing action it was time for Sharking. Quickly hooked up this +6ft Blacktip and almost, almost forgot how much fun this was! Re: Saturday Surfside Jetties Report

Glad you made it back okay Mike. Next time hail a nearby boater on the radio, they will not mind towing you back. Call CG if you have to. Due to boat traffic and current I would recommend all kayakers launch from the beach and not within the jetties except for the AI/TI kayaks that will have either ...

I wonder if its due to salt content? We've been flooded the past 2 years with heavy rains causing more outflow than normal and I wonder if this dilution is having an affect on our slippery friends. If you look at the picture you can see a big difference further east and south of us in salinity. Boo...

Re: Matti rigs April 23

However, almost every trip south of Port Aransas (excluding one late last fall) has resulted in numerous kingfish. My advice, drive a couple of hours further south. That's good to know. I've been wondering how comparable the Freeport area was to anything south of Port A. As stated in another post a...
