Re: Cali Cat Yakkers Fishing Report Friday 2 August 2019

Hey Harry, glad to see you guys carrying the torch, and it looks like y'all haven't missed a beat! These 100* days keep me in the AC, but I guess you guys get off the water before noon. We could at least use some cloud cover, but even those days are rare. Keep the reports coming! Tight lines my frie...

Nice job!
That green Ocean Kayak on your trailer was the same as my first kayak I ever owned. It was a sad day when I sold her!

Re: Favorite Mod Yet...

That is a really good job with that seat! Those Malibu 2 Ocean kayaks are classic!
I've seen more pickups on the hwy and expressways with kayaks in the back than ever before, and also bikes on racks going down the hwy.
Gun ranges are also pretty popular as well.

"Slept under my hat on gravel bars many nights at Ruede's Camp."

I also have fond memories fishing there and that old rickety foot bridge back in the early 70's. I pulled many a stringer out of those pools.....Too bad those days are gone!

Re: Live bait available?

They are supposed to stock reds next, but when and how many it didn't say! I wish TPWD would put a bag limit on the catfish in those lakes down from the 25 per person per day. I don't know if it was only the over fishing, but something sure caused the decline that they had to restock the lake, and t...

Re: Live bait available?

I read that TPWD has just finished stocking catfish for this year, and that Calaveras got 220,000 channel cat fingerlings, and Braunig got a total of 135,000 channel cat fingerlings.
That should really help if most survive being eaten!

Re: Live bait available?

From what I've been hearing, the consensus from a number of the fishing guides is that they have been catching few younger cats the last few years, so the indication is that the spawn has been disrupted and the culprit is more than likely those plecos, who have pretty much taken over the lake. In th...

Re: Live bait available?

Wondering whats going on with the catfish out there? Once in a great while I'll hear a good report and then just this last week, I heard they had a catfish tournament out there and it had a good turnout, but that a very small stringer won it, and a lot of folks didn't even catch a fish. I'm thinking...

Re: Catfishing: Stringer/Soft Cooler/Icechest

In order to keep those soft bags and such clean just go to Lowe's and buy some of those heavy duty leaf bags. The heavy duty kind, and clip the fins on the cats and put them into the bag and then into the soft fish bag or ice chest. Take the fish out and the bag is clean with no slime. I once had ab...

Re: Big channel cats

One of my favorite times of year for catching channels along the shore! I set up my rig with a cork about 18" to 20" above the hook and work down a rocky shore or brushy shore with cut shad for bait. Kind of reminds me of casting a top water lure for bass, because I use my trolling motor a...

Re: Cob webs

Hey Harry, glad to hear you are still after them. The weather has been pretty bad especially on the weekends with fronts coming through and winds out of the N and NE which isn't good trying to get out on Calaveras in a kayak. Haven't heard any reports, so maybe when the weather warms up and settles ...

Yep, ....Nothing but cob webs, dust, and the weeds have all grown up around here, and when I came in I said "hello" and I could hear an echo.......Looks like nobody has been here for a long, long time....... A few empty beer cans and bait containers, but that's about it! Looks like ...

Re: Pescador pilot 12.0 pedal kayak????

Seems so few people visit this site so it may be a while before you get an answer.
I don't own one, but if I wanted to purchase one the Pescador Pilot is the best price range, and I would look at it as something I could afford.
Other than that I have no idea.

Re: Are there alligators in Braunig lake?

Fished that lake for decades and never saw any! Don't worry about gators, but there are plenty of harmless water snakes you will end up seeing out there. There is supposed to be a gator or two at Calaveras down the road from Braunig, but I have yet to see it with my own eyes. I've fished in the Nuec...

You can bet that old catwalk and rickety bridges were a lawyers dream. That is why you no longe...

That area behind the person wading and you can see a stump sticking up is what is left of some ancient cypress trees that the massive flooding of a few decades ago took out. Also the huge cypress trees around English Crossing where you launched were devestated as well. I can't help but wonder how yo...

There are several of those bridges and some longer ones anchored to the cliff face that were made for when the lake was full in order to hike to the main river channel. Just to give you an idea of the age of that footbridge is I was in my teens and twenties when I walked those bridges, and they were...
