Link to President Roosevelt catching tarpon off the beach at Port Aransas in 1937 or so since we are on the topic.

Re: MAYAN RIGS GOING AWAY!?!

what i see is that both of you could be right. there is more than one point of view Tarpon and grouper have always been in Texas waters, this is a fact not a point of view. They did not come from florida and are not going to go back to florida. Why not keep it friendly? If you disagree, surely it i...

Re: MAYAN RIGS GOING AWAY!?!

i believe even if all the rigs are removed corpus will still have good fishing, you will have to target jetties, weedlines and underwater structure others dont know about. trolling 200 yards off packery, fish pass, bob hall pier or port a jetties will become the norm is my guess..the fishing in cor...

Re: MAYAN RIGS GOING AWAY!?!

The rigs are in state waters and overseen by the Texas Railroad commission. Texas does not force the operators of rigs to pull them. In the past the rigs were left in place after plugging, but after the BP oil spill most operators are pulling rigs in fear of being sued. The FEDs do force operators t...

Re: Waders or wet suit?

2-3mm farmer John wet suit. They are made for kayakers, duel zipper in the front for easy access. Layer over and under as needed. Will keep you dry, or save your ass if you go for a swim. Most Neoprene waders are to thick for Texas waters, breathable waders offer no protection if you get wet, no ins...

Re: McFaddin Point of Interest

I can insure you Big Hill is safe, and not in any danger from this or most any other marsh fire. Most marsh fires are natural. One of same processes that will ignite hay when it is bailed to green is the same process that starts marsh fires. Also dry conditions with heavy winds can cause fire. There...

Re: Surfside Gaswell is Gone

Sad to hear, very real chance in couple years there will be no rigs within yaking distance of the Texas coast. I wonder if the bases are still there. They would still be a prominent structure even if they are only ft off the bottom. I bet if someone checks.it.out, there will still be fish suspended ...

Re: Surfside Rig Removal?

The Jackup rig does not remove gas stands, it preps them for removal. A rigkiller or a craneship is what remove rigs. I hope they just abandon it and leave it in place since it is in State waters. The main problem with rigs-to-reefs, etc. is that federal regulations prohibit these structures from b...

Re: Surfside Rig Removal?

As per the RRC web site it is being Abandoned. Most all state platforms are going to be plugged and abandoned in the next year or so. While this gas stand may be left in place because it is in state waters, the chances are slim due to the Political atmosphere and other factors. Most all operators ar...

Re: What happens to a rig when its removed?

We need to push the state to allow a company to do this in state water, and the fed gov to allow it in fed water off our coast. Whoever it is needs to have enough money to pay somebody to lobby the politicians to take action, and more money and influence then the shrimp industry. Since 1990, the St...

Re: What happens to a rig when its removed?

I'm no Obama supporter or anything, but this is not totally this administrations fault. Blowing up rigs when the company that owns it decides to tear it down is nothing new...been going on for decades. There is basically no incentive for them to be left for the company who owns them so a little ent...

Re: What happens to a rig when its removed?

There are several of you here that use the term "blown up or blow up". I really don't know myself but common sense would tell you that they don't blow up a rig or is everyone using that as the description because it is being torn down Yes, the rigs are blown up. Explosives are a very comm...
