South Texas Marsh

Talk about a long minute since I posted on TKF and much less with a fishing report. Rusty and forgetful should be the topic name. Forgot my wallet at home, my life jacket in the garage and my waters in the truck. I was fortunate enough to run into another TKFer way back in marsh who gave me a Powera...

Re: Lone Star Kayak Series 2016 Event #1

146! nice showing. I donated my money...I mean entered the tournament Tuesday night. I did add in a disclaimer on my "notes to seller" for full refund if I don't pull in any fish. Blew the dust out of the live well and still working fine, got my extra stringers so I am not dragging my fish...

Re: Gracitas Creek/ 6 mile area Port Lavaca

Fished there once and won't be back. Its a heck of a paddle on a SE wind. Not to mention its the local spot for catching sharks! We had a nice bull shark (6-7') chasing mullet on a bar and someone had a bright idea to throw a top water at it only to scare it off and go under my yak (well in my direc...

Re: A work in progress (TKF sticker)...

Nuecesbay Dave made a Texas logo one for those that went to a Florida tournament. Not Exactly TKF but had the Texas outline and a yakker. It was done for shirts and purchased one. It was pretty cool and would buy another one and sticker. If I recall it was on Zazzle to order.

I have enjoyed the gone fishing seat. Several years now. Enjoy the high back and it cleans up the clutter in the back real well.

Re: Corpus, North and South, red tide?

I think your safe if you stay north of the JFK.
I was in the SE corner of night hawk and saw a perch grasping for air and 2 floating fish. Granted this was after a north west wind and it was once reported near PITA island.

Look forward to your report.

Kayaking I'd stay in Aransas and Corpus.

That's just me. I enjoy Mansfield but it's via boat and wading.

Re: Why use any weight if you don't need it?

I use to do the bare hook for live shrimp under a cork. One day after fishing artificial under a cork with a jig head I used it for live shrimp. Felt like I had more hits. Kept the bait lower in the water column and haven't changed it since.

Re: nueces area bait shops

For that area those are the only 2. Your next bet is bait bucket in the bluff and they open at 5?
I could have sworn l head opens up earlier. I've picked up my bait for tournaments before and on water by 6 using them.

Check if there are showers at malaquite? Mustang island is about 30 mins from Bird. You might give up a SE breeze staying on the Laguna side.

Re: Stringers; what are you using?

So I had an everlast from academy that got chomped so I decided to try out one of the stinky pants stringers last week mainly due to the quick release. The spike is way too slim for my wade belt and slipped out with 6 trout on the line. Luckily I saw it floating away and was able to recover all but...

Re: Picaroon - I saw troutzilla...

I am going to Mansfield on Aug. 9 and will fish for 6 days. I will wade about 99.9% of the time. If I am in a Kayak it will be only to get into a back bay or lake.......I expect to see several large trout. I always do at this time of the year. I do not expect to catch any I almost never do. In fact...

I have used soft sided cooler w/plastic boxand a bubbler. The small coolers work great for a quart of shrimp or dozen of croaker. Fits on your lap and no dragging around.
