Late Notice Request for Fly Fishing Assistance - Baytown
Hi folks, Yakke-T (Tracey) is teaching a fishing class this week to a group of 7th to 10th graders at one of her summer camps - probably 10 kids. The first day is fly fishing - and while she has an understanding of the principles and some experience, someone with more experience and knowledge would ...

Re: Areas to launch near baytown
Baytown Nature Center has several places to launch from, and in general its a safe place to leave your car. Do a search on tkf for BNC and there should be a couple of threads that show exactly where to launch.

Nurture Nature Festival in Baytown this weekend
Hi folks - Over the course of the last 6 years or so we (some tkf'ers) have had a spot at this festival, sort of a static display of kayak's rigged for fishing where we stand around, talk about fishing, answer questions, and enjoy the festival. In the past I've posted on here asking for folks that w...

we've eaten bass from there - no obvious side effects. I think they are either adapting their color to the environment or their color is coming from the dark colored fish they are eating - but I doubt seriously that color is anything to worry about. Maybe a biologist can weigh in. watch out for gat...

Re: Vibe Sea Ghost 130.
I bought one in September as a gift for Yakke-T - because of weather (that little rain storm we had here in Houston) and some other things, she hasn't had it on the water yet - so I can't help much there. I can tell you that getting a kayak shipped to you can be an interesting experience. It will co...

Re: New guy looking for other like minded people
pretty solid advice for you - I think many of the kayak focused places have episodic demo opportunities where you can try a few out - even if for a brief paddle it will give you an idea of the feel of particular models. For used boats, look here, or on craigslist - there is no shortage of yak's for ...

Hi Hirsch - do you guys still do your little camping trips? I haven't seen much on here in a while - but then I'm not on here much anymore - can't figure out this new platform.

I've seen otters at the wildlife refuge on the north side of East Bay, so it's not a stretch to see them on Bolivar- they may go there to get away from the gators!
Very cool thing to see - you were lucky!

Re: RE: Re: Galveston Gulf fishing charters?
There are plenty of bay guides in the Galveston area that would be well suited for young, novice anglers (use natural baits). But you put the word "Gulf" in your title, so I will assume you're looking at offshore. One of the party boats would be the most economical way to do a trip like t...

it was a fun trip - we found out that our spots were amidships, so cigar minnows weren't much of an option - those are better when you are on the fantail. We brought home 20 vermilion snapper, a couple of other odd snapper's and a whitebone porgy, which all together will make for a very nice fish f...

Re: Galveston Party Boat Suggestions
funny. Fisherman can be an odd lot... One of the deck hands on the boat we took had to be about 60, but looked to be in great shape and obviously was enjoying what he was doing - he was the voice of the crew, giving the briefing ("don't puke in the galley, don't puke in the head, don't puke on ...

Galveston Party Boat Suggestions
Yakke-T received a gift certificate good for a trip on one of the charter party boats, and we are heading out tomorrow (if the waves and weather permit). I've been out once or twice, but it's been over a decade, and she never has. This is the 12 hour deep sea trip - heading out 20-40 miles - the las...

Re: East Bay Tuesday Morning
I've had gar balls, which thankfully aren't completely eponymic, and they weren't bad. The least impossible meat to get at is harvested from the back strap, which on a large fish presents a challenge not unlike that St. George faced.

those are some nice looking half-shells. here is a little info on the spots - not definitive, just one biologists opinion, but interesting. Theories about redfish spots and numbers range from salinity levels to geographical locations. Biologist Gina Russo, the program coordinator for the past Projec...

nice report - thanks for taking the time to post. And yes, it's an alligator gar, fun fish to catch but not terribly fun to take off the hook some times. I caught one on a hula popper once, she somehow got both hooks tangled up in her jaws, that was less than outstanding...

Re: Quiet around here lately
Like Cuervo said, it's been discussed in several threads. There are a few things at fault here: 1) this new format. I'd say it sucks, but I won't do that, cause I'm a nice guy. It must be what the owner wanted, because it's still here after multiple comments over several months on how it sucks. I'm ...

Re: Wow the prices of yaks these days are insane
it's not the sport (or mode of fishing if you prefer) that I enjoy. I like my little floating plastic chair, that I bought used on TKF when I joined a few years ago, paid $300 bucks, it still floats (mostly), I can still catch fish in it (when I get it on the water), and I'm still happy. Now it does...

Re: Baytown Nurture Nature Festival - Volunteers and visitors welcome UPDATE
We had terrific weather and over 5000 people come out for the festival on Saturday - special thanks to Vampiro (Willie) for working the entire time while I was running around doing the bidding of Yakke-T (Tracey). I think this is Willie's 4th or 5th year to volunteer - he is the man.. and here is Th...
