Re: Estes Flats - November 7, 2021
Well I finally had time to read the posts and it looks like another memorable trip. My days off had been scheduled since the day Neumie sent the dates and I was so looking forward to being there but unfortunately tragedy struck and I was out. Thank you for the detailed reports and the reflection of ...

Ron truly a pleasure meeting you and Lou also and I look forward to the next time.
Great write up and project you pulled off there. I bet it does cast forever, can’t wait to see it in action.

Re: Estes Flats - October 6, 2020
Have always wanted to fish Estes and finally made it, what a beautiful area. By far my best day as I finally caught a couple of descent fish. When we got to the back side of the island it wasn’t long before I caught the 23” red on a bone spook jr. I did have my net this time and it was crazy when I ...

East Flats - October 5, 2020
Wish I could have seen the swimming hog! I spent the first hour or so in the lake behind the air strip and the two coves all on the right of the channel. Caught a 14-1/2” speck on a Down South Spicy Pumpkin and one dink speck. Paddled quiet a bit covering small flats, the back side of Perone and som...

Dagger/Ransom Flats - October 4, 2020
It is a great spot and although it’s pretty open to the wind has had pretty water in it every time I’ve been there. This was by far the day I had the most action in numbers ( of course on the day I left my net in the truck ) catching 5 reds but all in the 17”-19” range. Lost one slot red at the yak ...

East Flats - October 3, 2020
It was a beautiful day to start of the trip and everyday after was just as nice. Even though the winds didn’t follow the forecast and switched several times over the 4 days they never were to bad. I made couple drifts in the first lake with multiple blow ups, a rat red and a dink speck on a bone spo...

Re: Looking for shrimp
Man I bet I took a thousand pounds of grass out of the ULM & JFK causeway with one of those push nets. Used to use one all the time back in the 70’s & 80’s cause I was to cheap to pay for live bait so it was shrimp with the push net or finger mullet and mud minnows with the cast net. Haven’t...

They have retreats all around the country so they will be used at any/all of the retreats.
Thanks for helping them out. Everyone that helps put these retreats on are volunteers and many are past participants.

Reel Recovery needs your help!
I don’t believe I have shared this on the TKF board but early last year I was diagnosed with Prostate cancer and elected to have surgery to remove it. Recently I have celebrated being cancer free for one year. Fortunately I caught it early, found a great surgeon and have made a full recovery with vi...

Re: Paul Brown lures
I washed them good with some organic no scent soap and rubbed them down with paper towels. They’re not so slimy and still pretty pliable. I’ll hang on to em and see how they work out.

Paul Brown lures
Found these in one of my tackle boxes, they’ve been in my garage for about two years and it looks like the heat has pulled oil out of the lures. Are they any good now? Should I try washing them or just dispose of them?
They smell like an old tool box.

Re: Crabby kind of day
Off white chenille and olive marker. The wing is pieces of rabbit zonker cut from the hide strip. Wrap tie in rabbit tuft, wrap tie in rabbit tuft, repeat. If memory serves me correct I believe those were size 6.

Re: Crabby kind of day
This is a pattern I tied while held up in the house during the rains of hurricane Harvey. It’s a mutation of a couple of different flies I’ve tied and although it doesn’t look like a crab it is intended to imitate a small blue crab. It has caught reds in the Aransas area. Problem solved, thanks Tom.
This has been an ordeal, I think I’ve been locked out of my account for several months at least.

Most recipes call for kip (calf) tail, I used arctic fox tail on these it has a little more action in the water. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180730/f44a4e8de1c4cda80065c321b6cd9ea2.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180730/2a8c412d8ccced17c0a2eb788f690a0c.jpg D. What did you tie today?
Haven’t been tying much this year but I used some time off from work and was around the house recovering from surgery so I visited the bench. Amazing how something’s that used to be so simple were more difficult now that I’m out of practice. Here’s a sampling of some I tied. Swamp Monsters Hell Razo...
