Re: Vacation on Sannibel Island FL Help.
Go to Norm Zieglers tackle shop site and get in touch with him. Sight casting snook from the beach is a big attraction in Sanibel. I caught snook and pompano from the sand fishing with my kids. Ding Darling park might be good from the kayak. For restaurants we liked Doc Ford's (main character in Ran...

I am looking at the Diablo Adios and wanted to see if anyone had experience with this kayak for saltwater flats.

Re: For fans of Flip Pallot
I just saw the Louisiana redfish show. It is good to hear Flip's voice on the TV again. I think The Walker's Cay Chronicles is the best fishing series ever. I also saw the first episode of Buccaneers and Bones which I also thought was well done.

Re: Lutra Laker Stitch and Glue Kit for Sale
I would also be willing to donate the kit to a non-profit group like the boy scouts or a school as long as the donation is tax deductible. This would be a great project for the right group. I am in Pearland.
Thanks

Re: Help with fishing Baja's East Cape
I have copied in some recommended tackle lists from the Rancho Leonero website below. I am a fly fisherman also so I bring an 8# for the beach and 10# and 12# for boats. You need baitfish imitations, sinking head lines, a good quality drag on your reel and a stripping basket if you fish from the bea...

Re: Ambergris Caye
I have fished with Vincent Dawson several times and I can highly recommend him. As far as DIY, you can rent a bicycle or walk the beach and usually see bonefish tailing. I was a few miles north of the cut last time I went and there were plenty of bonefish although these get much more pressure than o...

Re: Flats boots/booty's
I wear Simms Wet Wading Socks with Simms Flats Boots. You fold the socks down over the boots and it acts like a gravel guard on waders. If you are going to be wading long distances this is the way to go. If you are getting in and out of the boat for short wades no socks is probably ok. Most flats bo...

Re: Fly Reel Questions
For shallow water redfish you do not need to spend top dollar on your reel and you do not need the standard 200 yards of backing. That being said, I use Abel 3Ns and I also have a Galvan Torque 8. As others have noted, the key is balance and too light is just as bad if not worse than too heavy. E-ba...

Madisonville Wooden Boat Festival
I thought this Louisiana wooden boat festival (20th year) may be of interest to the board. Most of the bigger festivals are in northern states.

Re: Belize trip
My son and I have had great trips to Ambergis Caye fishing with local guide Vincent Dawson. Marcus had a slam with a tarpon, snook and bonefish one morning. We also caught several mutton snapper.

Re: Monterey Bay California - Need Advice
I fished with the following guide five years ago in sight of the aquarium. http://www.santacruzkayakfishing.com/home.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I caught about ten rock bass and 3 sand dabs and the price was reasonable with all equipment supplied. I wore waders but m...

Re: Bottom Fishing San Juan Islands (Orca Island) Washington
I was in Orcas Island about ten years ago and stayed at the Beach Haven Resort (rustic cabins on a nice beach). They had rowboats as part of the stay and my son and I would row out to the kelp and jig off the bottom. We used spinning tackle with large jig heads and bright pink soft plastics. We caug...

Re: Getting into fly tying; any pointers?
The Texas Fly Fishers class is very good. My only warning is don't start fly tying to save money. You will end up with another materials for ten thousand flies in no time.

Fly rod repair
Whoever you get to do the repair, I would use the same type and size of guide. A Scott fly rod (or any quality graphite fly rod) will have a change in action if you change the guides.

This made me curious enough to find my Sea of Cortez book. I agree with the identification as the Panama Graysby. The spot on the head and the bars on the body seem pretty clear.

Both are fantastic reels. However, if you plan to mainly fish for redfish and trout in Texas, they are both overkill. That said I own several Abels and love them. I also have a Galvan Torque (also made in America) and it is very light with a sealed drag. For Abels and Tibors you will need to perform...
FTU
I have been fishing all over the United States and all I can say is I am very happy that we have a store like FTU in the Houston area. You will not find more knowledge and experience in any one store any place in the country. Academy has its place (good price on high volume goods) but you have as go...
