Re: Alabama rig
Yeah, I didn't figure it was anything new, but it was new to me. I actually modified it a little. I put a 1/8 or 1/4 ounce rattling bullet weight above the first swivel on my leader. That lets me fish it a little deeper or a little faster and I think the rattling weight helps, too. I do use heavier ...

Re: Alabama rig
I like these flukes called Skippyfish. The guy who designed them has a video where he uses what he calls a "deuces wild" rig. I've used it and I really like it. It's a lot better in the kayak, IMHO, than that thing. I'm sure it catches fish...I'm also sure it snags on everything in the wat...

+1 on the Rage Shad. I've gotten to where I prefer this over a buzz bait. It's really cool to be able to throw it into stuff you'd hang a buzz bait in. CHEAPER, TOO!!!Bassmantrs wrote:Buzz a Rage Tail Shad or 10" Anaconda over the top of the grass and hold on. (By Strike King)

This past Sunday's fishing
Alarm went off at 0430 Sunday morning. I shut it off.   Got up at 0630. Had coffee. Sat down in my recliner. Woke up at 0830.  Went outside. Freaking cold. 42 degrees on my porch. Looked at the forecast and the guessers said it would be in the 80's later. I didn't want to ...

Re: Be Careful Out There - Kayaker Snake Bit
Yeah, it's some sort of a non-venomous water snake. Probably is a banded water snake. We have a few of them, with the most common being the diamond back water snake, or nerodia. I don't know all the different varieties, I just make sure I can identify the poisonous ones. We really only have to worry...

Guess I should post up!
Well, this was supposed to be the year I was really gonna hit it hard. Fish, fish, fish and fish, only interrupted by some fishing. That didn't happen. It's been a brutal year for me where the trucking business is concerned. Busy, busy, busy. That's good, but it's not conducive to fishing. Throw in ...

Whatever you do, don't buy the "self inflatable" kayak seat pad made for SOT kayaks!! I think the name it was sold under was "Crack of Dawn" or something. Bought one for the wife. TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY!! .........Sorry yours didn't work out. I've been using mine for 3.5 yrs and h...

Re: Paddling in the lake...
You don't have any problems. It was just "weathercocking" into the wind. My trident 15 tends to try and point upwind, too. It's not anything that learning some good paddling technique won't overcome. It'll also be a lot less work for you to paddle with more speed and go longer distances wi...

You might also experiment with a drag chain and anchor trolley, though I've never done it.
I'd guess that the snake in the tree was just a nerodia. THey do that all the time here in N.E. OK, too.

I thought maybe y'all might get a little bit of it. I'd hoped Texas would get some of it. We needed some rain, but this is ridiculous.

Y'all gettin' soaked?
We're getting torrential rain fall and flash floods here in N.E. OK. I hope y'all are getting some down there. We needed the rain, but I think y'all need it worse.

Thanks for all the info, RBR. I think if I could build her a boat and stay south of 40 pounds, she'd be tickled to death and that sounds pretty doable. I showed this to my wife and she instantly asked if it could be painted forrest green, here favorite color. The plan seems to be working. I l...

Re: Snakes & fishing
paddletrucker- that is a big honkin' cottonmouth there. But the one that hit your plastic, that doesn't look like a water moccasin. Too light in color and too slender of a body in relation to length. No, the little one isn't a Moccasin. It's just a little water snake. If it would have been a Moccas...
