You probably need to email the manufacturer. Some dual ratings mean the lower rating works best with a double-taper line and the larger rating for a weight forward taper. But, some say use the lighter line for distance and the heavier line for shorter casts. Most rods will cast up or down at least o...

I am glad you asked the question. It made me think about underlining a rod for casting into the wind. Underlining a rod does not change the action it just allows you to have more line out to load the rod thus keeping the same rod action and loop size. When you overline a rod it causes the rod to ben...

Rod Action
Earlier this year at a Fly Show in Denver I was talking to A Scientific Angler Rep. and we were talking about fly lines and rod action and his opinion was that if I wanted a fast action rod I could step down the line size. I think that is why some "experts" say to cast further in the wind ...

Where did you access the ferry? I was in POC in Oct. and was told there was no longer a ferry to the island.

Rio Outbound fly line
Anyone using the Rio Outbound intermediate line? I am thinking about getting the WF10 F/I 425 grains for the surf and was wondering about the pros and cons of the intermediate sinking head and floating running line. It seems that without going to a shooting taper the only way to get a heavy head wit...

Four tide days and two tide days
I've read articles that say the fishing is best along the upper coast during 4 tide days and that two tide days are best for the middle and lower coast. They offer no explanation as to why they have that opinion. Would anybody care to comment?

10 wt
I think that it's a little heavy for wading the flats or casting from a kayak all day, because if you're like me you'll be doing a lot of blind casting. if I had a choice I would use a 6 wt. or an 8 wt. in the wind, but if all I had was a 10 wt I would use a longer leader to help the presentation.The...

Question about tides
I am reading the March edition of Texas Saltwater Fishing Magazine and looking at the Tides and solunar table. My understanding was that the tides were highest at New or full Moons when the Sun and Moon were aligned (spring tides) and weakest at quarter Moons(neap tides) because the Moon and Sun wor...

I 've read where folks were making their own stripping baskets and screwing plastic cones inside of them. I have tried cable ties, but would like to know where to find the plastic cones, any suggestions?

Question for Gartooth about sinking lines
Thanks for the info. I bought the SA Streamer Express. I have a 10 wt rod and I bought the 400 grain line. I am practicing the "Water Haul" to get the line back to the surface and a modified belgain cast,(line under the tip on the back cast and over the tip on the forward cast) to keep the...

Waders
When I wear waders (simms Gortex and boots) I wear a wader belt and a PFD. In the water the waders trap air and provide additional floatation. I don't have a problem swimming with them on. In cold water if I had a choice I would put on my waders/with belt, if I new I was going to be in the water ver...
