Re: Under line?
A lot will have to do with 2 things. One is the rod the other is the caster himself. I have a Sage XP 8wt that casts a 7wt line like a dream. Will cast the 8 like a cannon and also does a good job with a 9. I have a Legend Elite 7wt that won't talk to me with a 6 on until I have around 60 feet out. ...

Re: Jig head Pheasant tail nymph
Not trying to be a wise ass, but you realize you tied that upside down. Easy to do on jig hooks, it can be confusing when you first start tying on them. The fly rides hook point up.

Re: Fly Fishing Hill Country In September
land owners along the Blanco are notorious against anyone recreating in "their" river.
I've had enough of those experiences through much of the hill country and beyond that other than the coast I spend my time fishing Oklahoma and Arkansas now.

A truly weedless diver. Tied on a TMC 9395 bend back so it rides hook point up.

Re: What did you tie today?
[quote="karstopo" I haven’t dived into articulated ties mainly because they look so intimidating to tie...and cast. Some appear to be a series of woolly buggers or muddler minnows hard wired together. I need to buy a few good ones just to get a sense of what they are supposed to be like. I...

John, I can't tell you how bad I want to get down on the coast. I'm reading the same reports and it's giving me fits. Best I can do right now is go down to the local pond and catch some brim and small bass. My life for now is more fly tying than fly fishing.

Re: Let's start a DFW kayak fishing org
There is a DFW chapter forum here. It hasn't been active since 2014 and i'm sure that if you registered in it you could get some action going with a little effort. As a case in point HOW (Heros On the Water) sprung out from it at the very beginning. Stubbs has said he'll get it going again if you gu...

Like the staging with the trap.
Question, ever throw those for LMB? They look like they have all the right ingredients to catch em.

Re: What did you tie today?
Yeah KK, I do it for fun too. Would like to keep some but with the cost of the hooks now going for 5 to 25 bucks each I'm starting to put the razor blade to them so I can use the hooks over again. Besides that there's not a single one that I tie that can't be vastly improved upon.

Re: What did you tie today?
Wish I could tie that many of the same pattern in one sitting. After 3 flies I'm going nuts and if I tie a 4th one I start changing the pattern. Kudos to you for having that kind of patience and determination.

Re: What did you tie today?
Does that muddler float or sink? I like my muddlers to sink and will fish them on a sinking line at times. I try to not pack or use too much hair so they water log quickly and become neutrally buoyant. Lost my pics when my old PC died or I could show you how good they work as a streamer. I’m startin...

Re: Fly Fishing Lake Lewisville
I've watched this and see that no one has offered anything up for you. I have never heard of a group that fishes Lewisville but I would do a search on google to see if there may be a lewisville fishing forum. I would also suggest that you check in at texas fishing forum. Many fly fishers there and a...

Re: Carp
An old friend invented this pattern a long time ago and was very successful with it. http://www.trashonthefly.com/2009/05/13/sucker-punch/ Of course now there are many carp specific flies out their most of them being weighted. Best success I've had has been with the Backstabber and the Heads Up flie...

Re: SLP Saturday 6-6-2015
Nice trout. I think the reason those yankees like the bluefish so much is a lack of better options. :) Bluefish are fun to catch but the only one's worth eating are what we called "snappers". They are a blast to catch on the fly rod. The kids would eat them as fast as the wife took them o...
