Re: Trout Trip 10/29.
I rarely keep a 15 in trout, my favorite size to keep is 17-20, they seem to really start to thicken up at this size, I'm going to bookmark that recipe and give it a try sometime. I never got into throwing the Assassins due to them being so soft, but my good buddy that fishes a lot of big trout tour...

Re: Trout Trip 10/29.
Glad to see you active on the forum again, I always enjoy your reports and perspective. I feel like certain times of year certain colors work better than others, interesting you couldn't get action on the white plastic. I'm like you, I prefer to hunt the redfish, but will settle for trout as well. I...

Re: Galveston considering to abandon the west bay access point on Sportsman's Road
It's an absolute disgrace that everything has been privatized out here. Now days there are a handful of launches for 32 miles of Galveston's coastline. On the South Shoreline you have 1 single public launch on Offats bayou off of 61st st which is an actual boat ramp, There is also an area on 103rd s...

Redfish in the grass
Went out this morning for a couple of hours. It ended up being a tough trip, from the time I left the house to the time I launched, wind went from 10 mph to 25 out of the ENE. Due to the winds I cut the trip short and didn’t get to fish the area I really wanted to, but the classic September pattern ...

Re: LHL quick trips.
It looks like the weekend of the 16th could be that mild-front. 🤞 Definitely got my fingers crossed, fishing has not been easy by any means. Usually I can count on the surf trout to save me, but even that has been super slow. This has been the worst summer in 5 years I’ve had of surf fishing, miser...

Re: Non Stop Speckled trout Action
Great informative fishing report, Kyle. I envy you because I haven't been fishing in about 5 months, stricken with a severe colon infection (Diverticulitis) that made me unable to walk or exercise until my gut doctor intervened two weeks ago w/ the strongest antibiotics on Earth. Totally lost my ap...

The time is now
Just want to give everyone a heads up that may not live on the coast; We have finally had a good tide push and a few drops of rain. The tide is the highest I’ve seen it in months, and believe this push of fresh gulf water will fire the fish up over the next few days… Highly recommend you get out the...

Re: Jones Lakes (Brazoria) 20-Aug-2023
Nice report, sounds like you were on some steady action and got some nice keepers in the boat. The strategy of launching in the dark so you can be in your zone when the sun rises is so important this time of year. In a kayak you only get 1 shot so you gotta make it count! Thanks for the pics and tak...

Re: Non Stop Speckled trout Action
Sounds like an excellent day out there! I am going to try to get out this week before I start a two week trial next week. Thanks Michael! It was a great morning considering there was a good amount of boat traffic and wind. I found a protected shoreline with the wind and tide blowing hard around it,...

Re: Non Stop Speckled trout Action
Can't beat that day. Thanks for coming back with the photos. I change a lot of my hooks, especially too small trebles. The right size hook may not spit out as easy. Many tiny finesse lures (winter glass minnows) have size 14 to 18 trebles, and I swap those to plug singles, size 4 and 6. I think sin...

Awesome day! One day I’ll venture out into the blue, but reading your posts and seeing the fish is a good start.
Glad the sharks weren’t too friendly and bumping into the kayak!

Re: Jones Lake (Brazoria) 16-Jul-2023
Great report and photos! I definitely agree that drifting or being on the move and intercepting fish is more effective and you’re much less likely to spook them, especially the redfish. I’ve had the same experience you described above. When I try to stake out I get some hull slap as well. The redfis...

Non Stop Speckled trout Action
I haven’t been on the water much of all this summer, between work, friends cancelling trips, brutal heat, and no rain; I’ve just not been inspired to get out there and grind it out. I had a friend cancel on me again this weekend and I almost bagged the trip, but I stopped making excuses and forced m...

Summer hard baits
I love throwing hard baits this time of year, whether it be a topwater, twitchbait,or the occasional crank bait. What are some of your favorite hard baits and colors you like to throw?

Re: Pre-trip Advice?
With the high winds and rising temps I’ll be relegated to night fishing. If the winds let up I’ll be on the beach casting plugs… Basically from now until September I’m fishing one of these 2 ways. You won’t find me on the flats unless we get a huge bull tide from a tropical system. My favorite times...

Re: Exotic fish spotted in Galveston Surf
Thank you for all the comments and apologies for the late response. I believe I’ve finally successfully identified the fish as an African Pompano. It did not look like a spade fish and a rooster seems far fetched, it had the shape of a jack crevalle and faint black stripes like the African pompano. ...

This is exactly what the fish looked like, expect much larger. Would it even be possible to have a rooster fish here? I was going nuts when I saw it, so exciting

Exotic fish spotted in Galveston Surf
I was out this evening in the surf off the east end of Galveston and saw something I’ve not seen before. At first I thought it was the end of a palm tree sticking out of the water… As I got closer to it I saw the white sides of a fish, it had a handful of black stripes down it’s side, similar to a s...

and a spoolbill photo. Excellent results - at some point, it's paying your dues to be there, but it's also paying your dues enough to know what to do when you get there. Topwaters always seem to have a window, usually light wind, morning is good, overcast or especially low-angle sun. Thanks Ron, I ...
