Re: Thoughts on on-the-water eats –
Many things over the years but among them: - cold fried chicken - hard boiled eggs - trail mix, any kind - nuts - Antone's poboys from Kroger (this is a recent add in) - fruit, especially cold mango, but apples, oranges or chunks of pineapple and last but not least, a full size Snickers bar. Water, ...

Re: Crazy High Tides
Yes, the fall tides that carry the redfish spawn into the bays are typically higher than other times of the year. I could be off, but seem to have read and witnessed that the tides get higher in spring and fall and then, depending on wind and storms, can get even higher or lower from those base poin...

Re: Great time of year to start learning where you are going to catch a big trout for Oct - April
Amen, Tobin. To anyone on the fence, whether you are new to Bay fishing or have been fishing the bays for years, there is not a better resource for shortening the learning curve when it comes to catching fish or for tuning your hard earned methods learned from years of fishing. The Troutsupport DVDs...

Re: Port O'Connor place to launch
Launching from the Fishing Center, as said above, can be hairy with the power boats all jostling for position, and once you get across, you can quickly get out of their more common paths of travel, but the paths to the places I would want to fish when launching from there will also be travelled by a...

Re: Good Starting Point
I'm curious as to where you're staying, where and how the kayak will be stored when you are not fishing, and whether you are aware of the propensity for some individuals all along the Texas Coast to walk off with stuff that doesn't belong to them. I'd hate for you to suffer that sort of fate and lea...

I don't know about access, but I have been through there and fished the area from a power boat
Be aware of the current. Be aware of the boat traffic. Certain times of year, days of the week and tidal flows, there can be some power boat traffic that might make even a power boater think twice.

For an operation like that to be financially advantageous, they have to have a way to steadily sell the kayaks. Gotta wonder how and to whom they unload a bunch of kayaks

Re: Bleeding your catch?
I have bled trout off and on for years. I won't do it in sharky waters wading and it isn't a good idea unless you do it soon after you catch them and put them immediately on ice. Do not bleed them (kill them) and then leave them on a stringer for another hour. If I am in a boat when I catch them and...

Re: Wading Spots
Be careful traversing a bird sanctuary. Not really sure which one you're talking about, but nesting birds should not be disturbed. It can get you a hefty fine, if not a dive bombing session from a bunch of PO'd terns. Seriously, that is a good way to make a bunch of birds abandon their nests at a cr...

Perception Prism
Those of you who have been kayak fishing for more than 10 years know the Prisms to be what they are, fast, quiet kayaks. I have one that's been in the garage unused for about 6 years. I have a newer kayak down at the fish camp that has a rudder and the Prism just doesn't get used any more. It's in g...

Re: Spring Flounder Run
I don't think Seawolf is anywhere near as good in the spring as in the fall. Over the years, my hunts for spring influx flounder have been most productive along shorelines near San Luis Pass - Cold Pass, Bird Island, Chocolate Bay, but especially the south shoreline of West Galveston Bay. Between Ba...

Re: From 10 to 5...
Unbelievable! All but two Louisiana parishes allow 25 Specks per day, with a 12-inch minimum. I thought it might be time for TPWD to restore the 10 per day limit in the lower Texas coast, not decrease the upper coast bag limit. I know the Red Snapper sportsman regs are in control of the Commercial ...

I have two custom Lagunas and just ordered a Sarge custom at the Boat Show last weekend. I had not tasted walleye until about a year ago. Wow!! That's is the best freshwater fish I have ever eaten, with catfish out of gin clear Guadalupe River water running a distant second. I had it fried in cracker meal that had salt and pepper only in it.

Matagorda 11-10-18 Marsh & birds
It was a wading by power boat trip, but this is useful info for kayak anglers. A group of nine friends fished a combination of places out of three boats. The wind blew 15-20 out of the NE with gusts to 25, but no rain so it was bearable. We started wading at the mouths of drains and could see shrimp...

Re: Billy bay, flounder fanatic jig head?
Weedless for flounder really means snag-less, as you are usually not fishing grass, but instead fishing areas with scattered rocks, & debris. There are two ways I go when it comes to flounder fishing with lures. One is a EWG weighted swim-bait hook rigged with a Gulp! Swimming Mullet. These have...

Fishing Report October 25-26
I spent two days fishing out of Shoalwater. Day 1 we fished a lot of water out of a power boat, from West Matagorda Bay to Espiritu Santo and one Day 2, we waded in at the Aransas NWR in the morning and did an afternoon wade outside Boggy in POC. Day 1 - Beautiful weather, but only single tide day. ...
