 Freshwater Tips

Bass fishing in Texas Lakes presents some unique challenges to the Kayak Fisherman.  Here are a few tips on making your first or next trip to an area lake more successful and enjoyable.  The kayak allows the Lake Bass fisherman to maneuver in amongst close quarter timber area in lakes, and travel up shallow streams/inlets where Bass boats can't.

  • Anchor- a mushroom style anchor may be more applicable to Lake fishing in a yak due to trees and brush under the surface, which could easily snag a folding anchor.

  • Brush Gripper- attaches easily to over hanging trees or standing timber in lakes.  A great alternative for anchoring in lakes! Available at Sporting Goods stores.

  • Deeper Water!  While fishing on the Texas Gulf Coast may find you in only one to four feet of water, you're likely to be in much deeper water (on the average) in Texas Lakes.  Use precautions, and don't forget your PFD.
